Log Cabin

Log Cabin

Seeing so many log cabins lately inspired me to make one. I plan to make more. It’s actually bigger in this photo than it really is. (At least, it was, on my laptop before I resized it.) It’s almost 5″ x almost 5″, I’m a bit amazed at how close to square it is. I have all these “ribbons” about ¼” to about 2″ in width, from my sister’s sewing scraps. I chose from these. Some are obviously too narrow,…

I Can Laugh . . .

I Can Laugh . . .

. . . but I have never figured out the “get rich” part. Today is Laugh and Get Rich Day. Since I last wrote . . . Yes, I got distracted. Nothing new about that. The most amazing thing happened. I got distracted by stitching! Machine stitching–embroidery. The machine is running as I type. Barring any problems, I should be able to type through each color. I’m trying to finish a snowman afghan for my sister. So far, so good….

Today

Today

I had decided on Monday that I would write a little here each day. Ha! The thing is that if I actually do something to write about, I don’t manage to get here. And if I don’t feel like doing much, that often includes writing here. Monday was Croissant Day. We “celebrated” by having roast beef on croissants for dinner. (Actually, Iqbal wanted that before we knew it was Croissant Day.) I forgot to check what Tuesday and Wednesday celebrated….

Jack-o-lantern

Jack-o-lantern

I tried to stitch it out today. I’m soooo frustrated. My machine’s tension is off. It’s not something I can fix because it’s automatic tension adjustment. Sewing machine shop is closed on Mondays, so tomorrow I’ll find out how long it’s going to take to get it’s annual checkup. I’m uploading the design anyway. If you download it, it NEEDS to be test sewn. That’s because, just maybe, my digitizing program has a problem instead of my machine (or maybe…

Finally!

Finally!

I’ve been planning to offer free machine designs for more than a year. I’m often playing with the digitizing program, and am almost constantly downloading licensed or copyright free graphics (for digitizing and journaling). I’ve also been constantly distracted or having to put it lower on the priority list. Last night I finally got to organizing my Airy Nothing Designs folder. And, typically ADD, I didn’t get very far, but . . . it was because I immediately found a…

Little Blue Box

Little Blue Box

So. . . this is one of the things I’ve been working on. (Video=2+ minutes of boring. Actual stitching was a few hours!) Watching this makes me appreciate the machine embroiderers who aren’t digital. I have a couple of free motion embroidery projects and, well, you can tell I do not have the necessary practice to complete a finely finished product. I modified the design from here. It came out better, but I’m still not completely happy with it. I…

A Box!

A Box!

I did stitch it out today! Oh! I see lots of threads in the picture that I didn’t see live! Well, it’s not a perfect box, but I did learn a lot when I made it. Use another layer of stabilizer. Remember to check and make sure the proper foot is on the machine. Block the finished design Face the design before cutting it out Leave enough fabric/stabilizer to sew proper seams This was stitched with a layer of heavy…

Stitching

Stitching

I think I fixed my upload size problem. . . . Nope. WP resizes my images! Actually it makes copies in various sizes, but won’t allow a full size image. I tried a direct link. They have not always opened because my webhost doesn’t allow direct (non html) links. Even on the same site, it doesn’t work all the time. I was working on this a few days ago and didn’t get back to it, but until I figure out…

Christmas?

Christmas?

Well, yes. If I want to make anything, I need to get started. I saw this cute box design (Just the black and white. Color design added because, although I have the right to use this design, I don’t have to right to give it to anyone.) at DesignBundles and wondered if it would make a decent stitched box. I grayed out the side flaps because I’ll be stitching, not gluing, those edges. The flaps on the lid remain so…

Iqbal’s Blanket

Iqbal’s Blanket

It started out as a Big Cloth à la Spirit Cloth. It’s still inspired a bit by Jude’s style of stitching, but is ending up a lot less freestyle stitching. This is partly because it’s being made to Iqbal’s wishes, since it’s for him and partly because I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m learning, though. So, it’s partly traditional and just a wee bit free spirit. I finally got it pieced last month. Piecing before embellishing is one of…
