What A Mess!

What A Mess!

The desks and shelves are in place, but nothing else is. I think I got everything that was on the art desk moved. I also think I’ll be working on both rooms at once for a while. Here’s another NOT-TO-SCALE sketch The yellow dashed lines give an idea how the room was cramped before. The cutting table is closer to the yarn chest and there’s only just enough room at each end to get around it and not that much…

Saying Goodbye Is Hard

Saying Goodbye Is Hard

I sorted through stuffed animals yesterday. I’m too sentimental and anthropomorphize too much. I had to say goodbye to the Sesame Street characters and lots of bears and other adorable critters. The only way to do it was to keep telling myself some children were going to find and love them. It’s not like I don’t have any for myself. I have a bin full of Christmas critters and I kept any Iqbal gave to me. Alex had already pulled…

70!!!

70!!!

I look in the mirror and remember my grandma at 70. Nope. My mom? Maybe . . . not. And I certainly don’t feel 70. The only giveaway to me is how quickly I tire, but I truly believe that has more to do with being out of shape than being 70. I’m working on that, so we’ll see. I don’t really expect to get all my old strength back, but I’m pretty sure, as I get back to more…

Deck

Deck

I had an appointment this afternoon, but before I left I got these photos. He was finishing the back stair rails They still have more cleanup, but they’re done with the deck now. Because we raised the deck almost even with the kitchen, the back stairs were a bit problematic. If we go straight off the bottom step, its a 3+ foot drop. He did account for that and the exit is to the left side. I would have preferred…

Deck

Deck

Not much going on with me. Been reading, working on files, and watching Outer Range on Prime. Did some laundry and watered plants. Saturday, I helped my sister put her new bed frame together. Exciting, huh? Today started (and is ending) sunny, so the deck guys worked. They got the front steps and about 3/4 of the floor done.

Empty Space

Empty Space

The deck builders tore down the old deck yesterday. This little video was taken July 1, 2020. It’s the only “picture” I could find of the whole deck. You can see some of the problem, especially as I pan to the right, but the whole floor was weak and wobbly. It was 65 or 70 years old! Even redwood doesn’t last forever. Especially if one is not good at cleaning and sealing every year. (We weren’t.) As of noon May…

Sunday, Sunday

Sunday, Sunday

Poetry is now live. Actually, there were a couple of poems there for a while now, but I added two more. Wall Yesterday I got to the little wall I mentioned on Friday. I didn’t have enough bricks, so we’ll be headed back to Lowe’s tomorrow. The near end (bottom) needs to be three bricks tall, I think, to about where it ends (top) now. Then it should be two down to one. Maybe. Iqbal likes it so much that he…

Where Did My Day Go?

Where Did My Day Go?

I think my good mood went with it. I spent the whole afternoon making a WIP/UFO page. It’s in the side bar. However, it is by no means complete. ⬆️That’s all I wrote on April 10. I’ve forgotten now what interrupted me, as well as what I was going to say. Obviously, it wasn’t really important. I’ve been doing practically no stitching, which makes me sad, but other things keep jumping ahead. Mostly it’s been the machine embroidery files. I…

A Sunny Day with Rain

A Sunny Day with Rain

This is just a few seconds. The rain itself lasted only a few minutes. I love this kind of rain. And it wasn’t raining in the backyard. I finally got all my Christmas decorations put away. Well, boxed and ready to put on the shelves. I wondered why I took so long, but I think it’s because I knew that Iqbal does not understand the sentimental value of the decorations, and sure enough, I found some that were broken, and…

Thinking on (Virtual) Paper

Thinking on (Virtual) Paper

I spent a few hours trying to make sure the woven strips lined up with the weave of the cheesecloth. This is as good as it got. Not going to redo it again. I like the look of it, the mix of color. I’m not sure yet how I want to stitch it down. It’s just basted at the outer edge of the weave now. Each strip is pretty narrow. The widest strip of the weave is not quite as…
