Born 70+years ago, I have 3/4 of a bachelor's degree in English. I love to read and love having written (not so much the actual process of writing). I've had several jobs, but no real profession. I have LOTS of hobbies, that seem to rotate and recycle, which leads to too many UFOs! The longest running are writing, hand embroidery, machine embroidery & digitizing, quilting, fabric, paper, and mixed medial collage and gardening (but even "long running" is more dabbling than doing). I have ADD, which became very obvious to me when my husband retired and ALL my required schedules disappeared. I'm a wife (50+years), sort of step-mom to 3, mom to 1. Daddima (grandma) to 2 plus 7 on the step side, where there are also 4(?) great grands. (I really know only the youngest step and spouse and their 2 now adult children.) I rarely blog about family, preferring to write about the currently cycling hobby and random thoughts that pop up (blather?).

Solar Powered

That’s me. And it’s never so obvious to me as in late spring, with Oregon’s on and (mostly) off sunshine. On a sunny day I can get right to things. On a cloudy day, with or without rain, it takes half the day to get revved up. It does not help that my inner two year old controls my sleep pattern. 1 am: “I need to go to bed.” “No!” 2 am “I need to go to bed.” “No!” 3…

70!!!

70!!!

I look in the mirror and remember my grandma at 70. Nope. My mom? Maybe . . . not. And I certainly don’t feel 70. The only giveaway to me is how quickly I tire, but I truly believe that has more to do with being out of shape than being 70. I’m working on that, so we’ll see. I don’t really expect to get all my old strength back, but I’m pretty sure, as I get back to more…

My View

My View

For some reason, or maybe not, I started to take photos of my view when it caught my eye from my chair. Last night I thought I should put them together. Since I simply did a zoom, point and shoot with no plan for them, they did not line up well at all. It made me kind of dizzy looking at them even after turning, stretching and shrinking them to line up as much as possible. In the end I…

Deck

Deck

I had an appointment this afternoon, but before I left I got these photos. He was finishing the back stair rails They still have more cleanup, but they’re done with the deck now. Because we raised the deck almost even with the kitchen, the back stairs were a bit problematic. If we go straight off the bottom step, its a 3+ foot drop. He did account for that and the exit is to the left side. I would have preferred…

Deck

Deck

Not much going on with me. Been reading, working on files, and watching Outer Range on Prime. Did some laundry and watered plants. Saturday, I helped my sister put her new bed frame together. Exciting, huh? Today started (and is ending) sunny, so the deck guys worked. They got the front steps and about 3/4 of the floor done.

Random Thoughts

Random Thoughts

Our house is tucked in on the east side of a hill in such a way that we get only mild winds, usually. There have been storms where our trees barely moved, yet once off our little street there is plenty of evidence of a serious wind storm. Right now there is heavy pouring rain. Our trees are moving only in response to the downpour. (And the sun peeked out as I wrote that sentence!) In the distance the trees…

Empty Space

Empty Space

The deck builders tore down the old deck yesterday. This little video was taken July 1, 2020. It’s the only “picture” I could find of the whole deck. You can see some of the problem, especially as I pan to the right, but the whole floor was weak and wobbly. It was 65 or 70 years old! Even redwood doesn’t last forever. Especially if one is not good at cleaning and sealing every year. (We weren’t.) As of noon May…

Sunday, Sunday

Sunday, Sunday

Poetry is now live. Actually, there were a couple of poems there for a while now, but I added two more. Wall Yesterday I got to the little wall I mentioned on Friday. I didn’t have enough bricks, so we’ll be headed back to Lowe’s tomorrow. The near end (bottom) needs to be three bricks tall, I think, to about where it ends (top) now. Then it should be two down to one. Maybe. Iqbal likes it so much that he…

Where Did My Day Go?

Where Did My Day Go?

I think my good mood went with it. I spent the whole afternoon making a WIP/UFO page. It’s in the side bar. However, it is by no means complete. ⬆️That’s all I wrote on April 10. I’ve forgotten now what interrupted me, as well as what I was going to say. Obviously, it wasn’t really important. I’ve been doing practically no stitching, which makes me sad, but other things keep jumping ahead. Mostly it’s been the machine embroidery files. I…

An ADDy Day

An ADDy Day

An ADDy Day Does it make a difference to anyone other than me whether all the letters are capitalized or not? I miss my old blog. I wish they had remained more user friendly. I had total html control. I didn’t have size limitations. I didn’t have “Blocks.” If I wrote poetry, it wasn’t shaded gray. I could change fonts. I could make tables with any background I want. ::sigh:: Why did everything get bigger?? I don’t want it to…
