Tree House

Tree House

It’s not really a tree house, but the living room seems to be up in the trees. I spent way too much time combining three photos into a panorama photo. Then the interior was dark and the exterior was practically whited out, so I spent more time trying to capture what I actually see. This is as good as I could get. (Excuse the mess–that’s true enough.) What looks like an orange tree in the first two windows on the…

Color

Color

It’s interesting. There are probably an infinite number of colors. No two people see exactly the same color when looking at the same thing. Some people will see very subtle differences in colors. A small percentage of colorblind people don’t see any color at all, while most can’t see differences between specific colors. Synesthetes see color in relation to senses other than sight. A color related phenomenon that baffles me is a fear of color, or a fear of using…

Who Am I?

Who Am I?

I really don’t know. At one time I’m sure I thought I knew. Is it because I’m always changing? I am mother, wife, sister, and grandmother. I see these as part of the definition of me, but none, alone or altogether, is a compete definition of me Who Am I? I am a woman at the threshold of my seventh decade and yet I remain a child. Occasionally, I refer to myself as an old woman. I am a grandmother,…

Not a “Daily [Anything]” Kind of Gal

Not a “Daily [Anything]” Kind of Gal

I tried to be. I’d like to be. But I’m just not. (5-21-21) It’s been over a week since I typed that. Apparently I’m not a “Weekly [Anything]” kind of gal either. What I’m really not, is an “Organized [Anything]” kind of gal. And I’m not sure why I opened this blog. My lack of organization means I have nothing prepared. Since I wrote here last: I worked in the backyard–cut the branches of the weed trees hanging over the…

In the Garden

In the Garden

That’s where I spent my afternoon. Mostly it was just pulling ivy out of areas I don’t want it growing. When we first came here, it filed the front corner garden, along with a lot of other overgrown weeds. It took us a while to clear that space. Over the past two or three years it started creeping back in. This is the corner garden. Most of what I pulled out is in the pile in front of it. A…

More Puttering

More Puttering

Dear Brother and Nephew hung cupboards, replaced dryer vent piping, and removed door. YAY!! Not having the dark “wall” (door) right next to the sink opens and lightens the room so nicely. The microwave is defunct, so it will be moved out. (I don’t need one here anyway.) I’ll move the drawers down to that end. Still need to paint the corner cupboard and touch up the ends of the “new” cupboards. My art paints are now in the left…

A.D.D. Pack Rat Tidying

A.D.D. Pack Rat Tidying

I’ve not written because I’ve not really done much of anything worth writing about. I have been mostly cleaning and organizing. I don’t have any plan. Some days I don’t do anything. On other days (more and more), I just do something in whatever room I’m in, or want to be in, and work for as long, or short, as I feel like that day. No goals I need to meet. Nothing that can say I failed to do it….

Lost

Lost

Today I am lost Mellow in music Time displaced A child again Very old, too. Don’t know how I got here Afraid to ask Or dig too deep Afraid of losing lost. It’s summer days running in a field. Sun shining. Wind blowing. Birds singing. I know I am loved by life itself. No words needed. Just lost In life. © F. Shafer Junaid 2021

A Buttonhole Stitch by Any Other Name . . .

A Buttonhole Stitch by Any Other Name . . .

. . . Is a whole lot of different stitches! I knew a lot of stitches belong to the buttonhole family, but several times as I was stitching recently, I would look at what I was doing and ask myself if it was supposed to be buttonhole. For example: Once you switch from regular buttonhole to alternating buttonhole, the only difference to make Cretan stitch is not to come out at the center line. Cretan is just a zig zag…

Mostly Cleaning

Mostly Cleaning

First, some business (though I doubt those who need to read it will.) I did not intend to spend my time here reading meaningless comments. I used to have a capsha option, but I no longer do (or I can’t find it) so I needed to put comments on moderation until I can figure it out. I appreciate a genuine compliment as much as anyone, but I’m not looking for compliments . . . especially on my “great blog,” “wonderful…
