Lost

Lost

Today I am lost Mellow in music Time displaced A child again Very old, too. Don’t know how I got here Afraid to ask Or dig too deep Afraid of losing lost. It’s summer days running in a field. Sun shining. Wind blowing. Birds singing. I know I am loved by life itself. No words needed. Just lost In life. © F. Shafer Junaid 2021

A Buttonhole Stitch by Any Other Name . . .

A Buttonhole Stitch by Any Other Name . . .

. . . Is a whole lot of different stitches! I knew a lot of stitches belong to the buttonhole family, but several times as I was stitching recently, I would look at what I was doing and ask myself if it was supposed to be buttonhole. For example: Once you switch from regular buttonhole to alternating buttonhole, the only difference to make Cretan stitch is not to come out at the center line. Cretan is just a zig zag…

Mostly Cleaning

Mostly Cleaning

First, some business (though I doubt those who need to read it will.) I did not intend to spend my time here reading meaningless comments. I used to have a capsha option, but I no longer do (or I can’t find it) so I needed to put comments on moderation until I can figure it out. I appreciate a genuine compliment as much as anyone, but I’m not looking for compliments . . . especially on my “great blog,” “wonderful…

Rose Roots

Rose Roots

Today was so nice, I had to go out. I managed to get the roots growing outside the pots trimmed on half the rosebushes. I hope it wasn’t too much or too soon. Only two were heavy roots. We’ll see. Hopefully, within the next two weeks I’ll also be able to repot these bushes–same pots, but more dirt. It’s amazing how much dirt washes away with rain and watering.

Green Spring

Green Spring

I looked around the garden today. The vegetable garden, which lay fallow last year, has been taken over primarily by wild geranium, secondarily by what I think is hairy bittercress, with a dandelion or two and some grasses. What looks like a mess at the bottom of this photo is the tops of the blueberry bushes outside the vegetable garden. I think I’m going to let the weeds grow in the paths (keep them mowed) and I’ll weed the beds…

Sunset Search

Sunset Search

“Hunt” may have been a better word choice, but I like the alliteration “Search” provides. The owl was done using Jude‘s skatching* method. Since I’m not great at drawing, I traced the outline of an owl onto the base cloth. The pencils I had on hand were colored art pencils. They are weird in that they faded away. Whatever color I chose. Except where I tried to erase. That I had to wash away with a damp (almost wet) cloth….

Kaleidoscope

Just because. There is something soothing about looking at a I had a devil of a time getting this image to post. My website is unlimited, but the blog thinks I have an upload limit. Finally, I figured out if I upload directly to the blog uploads folder (not via the blog) and then link the image, it’ll stop telling me my upload is too large.

TAST: French Knot & Pistil Stitch

TAST: French Knot & Pistil Stitch

I’m still filling in my doodle cloth. It’s become kind if a free form sampler–a combination of practice stitches and experimenting. Pistil Stitch Generally speaking, I really like knot stitches and this is no different. This pistil flower is one of the experimental stitches. I like how these flowers turned out, generally, but will do at least two things differently next time. 1) I won’t use variegated thread for the petals because the individual flowers are not distinct enough. At…

Kiwi Chicken

Kiwi Chicken

Was going to finish the den today. It’s after 3 and I haven’t been in there yet. I may get in there, but it’s not likely I’ll get finished today. Oh, well. This is my normal. Three hours later . . . I got distracted. Again, my normal. I was going to write about my stitching last night, but I saw another picture and wanted to play with it. So this (kiwi skin with one last scoop of fruit) ….

I’m not very good at keeping up. With anything, really. Since Friday, I’ve been cleaning out my den. I got some new-to-me bookshelves from my sister last Monday. I’m still double shelved, but books are off the floor. She has more bookshelves for me, so I decided to do a thorough deep cleaning to see if I have room. I do. It’s involved getting rid of a lot of junk. What I have left to do is sort and empty…
