My pareidolia leaf elf is gone, as is the bright cheer of my red maple. Actually, the day is more brown, green, and gray. Brown tree trunks and unfallen dead leaves, green evergreens and moss and lichens, and gray clouds. In the front there’s also a lot of blacktop. Even mid-day, without the lights turned on, my living room is dark. Daylight lightbulbs help. Although our yard maintenance guy tidied the yard as best he could, I cut back my…
3 p.m. I love being solar powered in the late spring and summer. It’s a bit more difficult as the cloudy, rainy weather of autumn and winter settle in. I think I could almost literally hibernate. I really love Oregon for all its greenness, but I remember Colorado living up to “sunshine 360 days of the year.” We lived in Colorado for only two years, but I can’t remember a dreary day. It usually rained every day at about three…
Today has been another day I didn’t do what I intended to do. Actually, that’s pretty normal for me. I was going to sand my benches. Instead, we picked pears. Whatever is left on the tree is for the birds… or squirrels. Or the bugs, particularly when they fall to the ground. We don’t poison our tree, so the fruit is always iffy. We eat up the best ones and dry (or maybe freeze, this year) the rest after cutting…
Well, yes. If I want to make anything, I need to get started. I saw this cute box design (Just the black and white. Color design added because, although I have the right to use this design, I don’t have to right to give it to anyone.) at DesignBundles and wondered if it would make a decent stitched box. I grayed out the side flaps because I’ll be stitching, not gluing, those edges. The flaps on the lid remain so…
’21/08/05 That’s how today feels to me. I have so many things I could be doing, plenty of things I should be doing, even things I want to be doing… ’21/08/09 I think that’s when I went out to water the garden. And that’s kind of how my week/weekend went, although I did manage to get out and water plants again on Sunday. And on Friday I went to see my brother’s new home. Along with the watering one day,…
But not a total frame of turquoise. I just needed to replace the blah blue with the turquoise. I also need to add some to the right side, with stitch, beads, or whatever. Wow! this is a wonky cloth. I may know how to do curves and turns, but not necessarily well. Oh well, I’m enjoying it and learning to do better (I hope!). Today I spent three hours watering everything. It is so dry here! 98% of the lawn…
After a week of struggling with computer issues (now corrected) and not being particularly active, I was very happy to work outside, yesterday. I used to work outside every single day. I don’t know what in me has changed. What keeps me inside so often? Anyway, I remembered to take a stiff brush out with me and I cleaned a load of bricks. Now … The patio is laid! I also moved my bench and my potted clematis, and repotted…
Acting on the premise that an improperly laid patio is better than no patio at all, and the fact that we’ve had these bricks waiting for ten (10!) years, I determined to make my patio. I started just before the heat wave and got as far as this. Today, I got this far. I haven’t decided which is harder–scraping the dirt to make it relatively even or bending in the sun to clean dirt and moss off the bricks. And…
On the first day of summer 2021 I was frozen. Really! I had to stay inside as I was doing a colonoscopy prep, and it was near 100° so Iqbal turned the a/c on. My den just kept getting colder and colder. By bedtime I wanted winter blankets. Yesterday I closed the a/c vent and the door and opened the window. Much better. Today the a/c is back off and all the windows are open and it’s an absolutely beautiful…
