I Am an Amalgam

I Am an Amalgam

I was going to say conglomerate But amalgam fits better For me it’s various sources and various kinds. I am so “this and that.” Because of that, I’m pulled in different directions. Sometimes I feel like the hapless fellow in the old Tarzan movies who had each limb tied to a different elephant, each sent in a different direction. (Well, not quite that gruesome.) Some people can say “I am a writer,” or “I am an artist,” or scientist, or…

Just Another Wonted Wednesday

Just Another Wonted Wednesday

Wonted is a new word to me, but I like it. It fits. I have been reading . . . Blogs, but not commenting much because I’m so OCD [grammar check, typo check, spell check, sense check, politeness check (don’t want to be a troll)] about writing anything that it takes too much time. And books because, well, BOOKS! All summer I didn’t have glasses that allowed me to read comfortably. I missed reading. I read mostly literary fiction, but…

Not Much . . .

Not Much . . .

. . . going on here. At least not much really interesting. I got more RAM for my laptop. Lack of adequate RAM was indeed the main cause of the constant folder crashes as I tried to file. Windows 11 is still not as good as Windows 10, but at least I can work now. Weird! When I wrote the title of this post, I looked up (out the window) and saw a white plane, possibly having taken of from…

Saying Goodbye Is Hard

Saying Goodbye Is Hard

I sorted through stuffed animals yesterday. I’m too sentimental and anthropomorphize too much. I had to say goodbye to the Sesame Street characters and lots of bears and other adorable critters. The only way to do it was to keep telling myself some children were going to find and love them. It’s not like I don’t have any for myself. I have a bin full of Christmas critters and I kept any Iqbal gave to me. Alex had already pulled…

Gray, Gray Day

Gray, Gray Day

My pareidolia leaf elf is gone, as is the bright cheer of my red maple. Actually, the day is more brown, green, and gray. Brown tree trunks and unfallen dead leaves, green evergreens and moss and lichens, and gray clouds. In the front there’s also a lot of blacktop. Even mid-day, without the lights turned on, my living room is dark. Daylight lightbulbs help. Although our yard maintenance guy tidied the yard as best he could, I cut back my…

Good Reads

Good Reads

I’ve been reading a lot of e-books lately. As a bibliophile, I generally prefer print on paper books, but since I’m a bibliophile for the stories, not the containers, I find it hard to pass up free e-books or really cheap ones. Something I’m learning is that there are a lot of self published e-books and that means writing quality ranges from “very good” to “really bad.” Books that have gone through an editor and publisher rarely get lower than…
