Stoopid Statins!
I woke up again today feeling like I worked all night swinging a rock crusher. That led me to spending the last three hours searching fatigue and muscle fatigue. I’m not sure what led me to the connection, because no one seems specifically to include it on a list of causes. Nonetheless, it’s very clear to me. It started shortly after I started taking statin medication. It grew worse over time, though eased considerably when I was off statins. Which is where I was in October when my doctor said I really needed a statin. And now–UGH!!
I don’t know why doctors are so in love with statins. Not one of mine over the years questioned them about my fatigue. Even a couple of years ago, when a particular station caused a continued achy pain in my arms, my doctor merely switched statins saying “I would love to take a statin, if I needed one.” “If I needed one”!!!
Doctors have told me to exercise more. I more than agree that I need to do that for weight, averting depression and ADD (focusing), but it doesn’t stop the fatigue and is a lot harder to do when it no longer energizes me and actually makes me feel worse.
So that’s the end of my rocky relationship with statins. There are non-statin cholesterol medications. They may not be quite as effective as statins, but I’m normally only borderline high bad/low good cholesterol. My doctor has been advised.
