GabCraft Day

GabCraft Day

GabCraft is the name I gave to the twice monthly days my sister, sister-in-law, and I get together to craft and gab.

I was hostess, today. Debie (sister) was unable to join us until late, so she didn’t join in this craft session. Since there is so much, even after giving a lot away, I decided we should play with Mom’s art supplies. I was going to have us make journals, but when I asked Kris, she thought she should start simple. So we made simple collages.

I had no plan or even any idea what I wanted to do. I save frozen pizza and cake cardboards, and the divider cardboards in some large boxes of canned soda. Each of us decided on a pizza round.

I wish I’d gotten a photo of Kris’s finished collage, but I totally forgot before she left. She started by gessoing a ying yang background and she ended up with a delightful collage of animals, stars, flowers and ?? I’ll ask her if she’ll send me a pic.

I simply covered mine with black gesso. Then I did a light green stencil. I used the small flower print and punched the large and medium flowers and used zigzag scissors to cut around individual flowers. I didn’t like how the large print flower looked against the black, so I smeared a bit of the light green behind it. For some reason that cocktail serving alligator (crocodile?) called to me. I didn’t want to fussy cut the image because the glasses were too unclear and I thought I’d botch it. I ended up simply cutting around him with scalloped scissors and using a medium green (gray green would have matched better) on the white so it wasn’t so stark.

The butterflies are from a single napkin, fussy cut and then the back layer removed. It didn’t turn out translucent, as I had expected, but that’s okay. The larger two flowers and one small flower were fussy cut from a coordinating paper to the small flower print. I also scallop cut more flowers from the small print.

Finally, I put some quarter inch washi tape around the edge and added the words.

I’m not 100% sure, but for now, it’s done. I may go back and add more imagery, touch up the black gesso, and ??? Maybe I’ll just leave it as it is forever.

Over all, I rather like it. And it was a very relaxing afternoon.
