Pizzazz!

I didn't bargain for a life
to lie fallow for a generation
between the bloom and the fruit.
I thought there would be more
pizzazz. I didn't expect this life.

Perhaps now, however, I am
more able to realize my dreams
and life has done me a favor
not to treat that tentative first bloom
as my season, but instead lets me
exult in a late ripening fruit.
