This isn't my best, but I don't think it's too bad. It took only about 30 minutes (not counting distractions). It reflects where I've been, lately.

Getting Lost

I have a knack for total concentration ~
as long as it's for something
not connected to deadlines, grades or work.

I can be absorbed in puzzles,
jigsaw or verbal,
or amid Chinese characters
and phonemes,
which are for me another puzzle.
I can be lost in a book,
or in a dream.

When the bird of the hour* heralds
a time long past when I began,
I would negate his message.
Slowly, I return to this world ~
though my heart
is wed to the one that has
absorbed me for so long.

And so...

I muster up my books,
head to the library
where I will not be perturbed
by the need-to-read's
constant conflict with distraction.
