In a patch of sunlight
the obese cat stretches
languidly, in that
arcane feline way -
head down, rear and tail
up in stelar fashion.
She bathes, then glances at me
with a slow blink. As she
leaps up to lounge in my
lap, she seeks only
her own comfort.
Yet somehow, her warmth,
the soft rumble in her throat,
her total certainty of her
right to be here relieves
the ache I felt
before she came. Cautious
not to disturb the now
sleeping cat, I stretch
languidly in my comfy chair
and return to my book.
