First thoughts on finishng the book -- 12/28/05 2:20 am:

Making connections. Holding on to the past to learn who you are. Connecting to parents, grandparents and lost relatives. Finding out who you are by finding out who they are/were. Her father was a gangster. He yelled at a "gangster" he was looking for. She ran away to find herself, but still found herself in her parents. Perhaps more in her father. She identified with him -- perhaps because of the time they spent together before her mother came, perhaps because she was said to look like him, perhaps because she was "wild" and he was a gangster. Roots are important -- not just to our elders.
