For my second day of CJS 2016, I decided to stay closer to the inspiration. I'm happy I did.

Apparently, one of the most loved paintings by Matisse is the one of Madame Matisse above. It's not my favorite. I like this next one of Madame Mattise better.

I think this is because it has more color, mixed together.

The video for day 2 was by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer.  She chose her inspiration picture -- Madame Matisse at the top.  I think it was because she said we didn't have to know how to draw, that I chose my favorite Madame Mattise. Basically, I just copied the picture without worrying if I was accurate or not. I didn't have the same watercolor crayons she used, but I did have something like them. I also ended up using some acrylics. I cutt off the bottom of the painting (figuratively) because I started too low and large. It's a close-up!

No one will ever think is't a Matisse, but I am really happy at how well it turned out. But I wasn't finished. I needed to add "me" to the picture. The problem with that is that I don't yet know who I am as a mixed-media/art journal artist. I don't even know if I am a mixed-media/art journal artist. Finally, I made my decision. I still don't know if it's ME or not, but that's okay. I think I have a lot of art to make before I know that (and someone will probably have to tell me first).

I added feathers, with a flower, in her hat,  a metal rose earring, and a lace collar. At first I use a doily edge for the lace, but then I saw mom had some real lace stashed away.

Now I am encouraged!

I did this in a sketch pad, but I plan to put it in my studio journal.
